Why Join the PTA?Minimize

Why Join the PTA?

1. The #1 reason to join the Parent Teacher Association is to benefit your child.  In doing so, you also help our school. It is a well-established fact that parental involvement both at home and at school is linked to children's success. Grades are higher. Test scores rise. Self-esteem grows. Schools improve.

2. Every membership counts! When you join the Capri PTA, you also join the California state and national PTA and become part of a national effort to improve the education, health, and welfare of every child. Membership numbers count in a significant way when our representatives are lobbying for funding for education in the California legislature or in Congress.

3. PTA membership helps you connect with the school, the staff, and other parents and gives you a voice in deciding the direction of the Capri PTA. Only members can vote on PTA issues and hold a PTA office.

Joining the PTA does not obligate you to volunteer at school or attend PTA meetings—although we hope you will! It is easy to join and you can become a member at any time during the school year!

PTA & EEF: Why Does Capri Need Both?Minimize

What is the PTA at Capri?

The PTA – is a parent volunteer group supported by a larger State and National organization.  Through fundraising and other efforts, our PTA connects our homes, school and community to help children succeed personally and academically.  Membership dues are $4.85 per member and paid to the State and National association. The remainder of dues donated stays at Capri.

What is the Encinitas Education Foundation (EEF) at Capri?

The EEF is a private, non-profit, volunteer fundraising organization that promotes and supports the children of the Encinitas Union School District.  Each school site has it's own EEF Chapter.  There are no membership dues at this time.

Where does your PTA donation go?

The PTA raises funds to provide programs that enhance the curriculum and your child’s school experience during the current school year. An example of how PTA and EEF work together: the PTA organizes and funds student performances, while the Music consultant has been funded by EEF.

Where does your EEF at Capri Donation go?

Funds raised through EEF at Capri provide instructional programs and consultants that enrich and supplement our curriculum beyond what State funding can provide. These funds may be carried over to another year allowing the planning for future consultants and programs.

Who decides how to spend PTA’s $?

Each year a budget and proposed programs are prepared by the executive officers of the PTA. The proposed budget and plan are presented and approved by the general PTA membership during the  September PTA General Meeting.

Who decides how to spend EEF’s $?

Similar to the PTA, Capri's School Site Council (SSC) made up of equal numbers of elected parents and appointed teachers and classified staff oversee and recommend how the EEF donations are allocated.  Decisions are based on an annual parent survey with guidance from our Principal.
